Fundamental Foundation and Educational Philosophy
Tohoku Fukushi University was founded in 1875 as a Buddhist school
by Soto sect, and is one of the oldest universities in Sendai city. The
founding spirit of the university is the Buddhist idea of “Gyogaku Ichinyo”, which
means the “amalgam of learning and practice”. The university provide its
students with a wide range of knowledge and skills to enable them to contribute
to the realization of welfare for the whole human society based on the “Jiri
rita enman” educational philosophy, meaning “by becoming better you make others
better”.
With a focus on social welfare, there are 4
faculties and 9 departments in four fields of “welfare”, “education”, “management”,
and “health”. Furthermore, the university is committed to nourishing human
resources who have expertise, rich humanity, and practical ability to contribute
to society locally and internationally by promoting practical activities, sports,
and volunteer activities at related welfare, medical care, and educational
support facilities.
Student Life in Enhancing Environment
Tohoku Fukushi University is located in Sendai
city, Miyagi prefecture. It is the biggest city in the Tohoku region, and it has been
known long as the “Mori no miyako” (the city of trees) and the “Academic city”.
