Ryukoku University’s History and Mission – Tradition and Challenge Rooted in Buddhism
Ryukoku University traces its origins to a study hall established within the precincts of Nishi Hongwanji Temple in 1639.
Founded on the principles of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, the university has a history spanning over 380 years.
In recent years, through its unique approach called “Buddhist SDGs,” which integrates Buddhism and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, the university actively addresses social challenges and promotes value creation.
