A Globally Unique Multicultural and Multilingual Campus
In
April 2000, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) was founded on a vision
of freedom, peace and humanity, mutual international understanding, and the
future shape of the Asia Pacific in cooperation with Beppu City, Oita
Prefecture, and many others both within and outside Japan. In its first year,
APU nearly achieved its founding concept called the Three 50s—50% international
student intake, 50% non-Japanese faculty, and student intake from 50 countries
and regions—and has since grown into a university with 5,744 students from 94
countries and regions. With 3,000 international students, which accounts for
around half of the entire student body, and 50% of the faculty hailing from
overseas, APU’s multicultural and multilingual campus affords an extremely
unique learning experience not only in Japan but the world over, and it is an
ideal place for students to acquire a global mindset exemplified by a spirit of
understanding and demonstrating empathy for people of different backgrounds.
Furthermore, with its biannual admission/graduation system (spring and fall),
Japanese-English dual language education where classes are taught in both
English and Japanese, and AP House, a 1,300-room on-campus international
dormitory that serves to promote multicultural exchange, APU has established an
unparalleled style of international education.
